JP: Responding to a Track

The Darkness - 'Stuck In A Rut'
  • The genre of this track is glam rock
  • This track represents a lo-fi video because of the comedic value of the song and the cultural currency of the lyrical content
  • A video that could be comparable to this song is the orignal music video for 'I Believe In A Thing Called Love' by The Darkness as the song is by the same artist and retains the comedic, low budget nature of the band which is apparent in all their videos

  • The budget for the original 'I Believe In A Thing Called Love' music video was £10 and it was directed, filmed and edited by Alex Smith (a friend of the band)

  • A possible treatment for this song could be for a handi-cam to follow the lead singer as he acts out the events of the lyrics in an average British town/village and at the same time singing to the camera (first person address) and occasionally cutting to band members performing in various locations that he travels. At the end he would meet up with the band for a full band performance
  • A possible location to film all sequences is Langton Green village in which two houses can be used (both group members), various local stores (permission would be needed) and the general outdoors in the village
  • The characters used would be the band members; any extras that would add to comedic effect such as the cashier in a shop may be included
  • Post production effects would include a variety of visual effects such a colour manipulation and time expansion
  • I would play guitar and sing in the video for ease of organising shoots so we would just have to cast others to star as the other band members (my old band would probably be fine to do it)
